In April 2019, the German development agency - GIZ - started implementing a new initiative called “Technology Based Adaptation to Climate Change in Rural areas of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan”. This project, which is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) aims at strengthening adaptation measures to climate change in both countries.

CartONG’s involvement in this larger initiative started in February 2021 following a Grant Agreement with GIZ Tajikistan for a project named “Addressing climate change through participatory mapping: using technology and community-based approaches to support climate change adaptation in rural Tajikistan”. This project aimed at strengthening adaptation measures to climate change based on geographic information and open-source technologies and was conducted in collaboration with the Tajik association Little Earth.

In September 2021, CartONG launched a new initiative to develop volunteering internally and build new partnerships around volunteering activities with NGOs, associations, companies and local institutions. This project aligns with our 2020-2023 Associative Life and Volunteer Involvement Strategy and is co-financed by the FONJEP, which was mandated by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), and CartONG.

Towards the end of the first lockdown period in France, Action Contre la Faim, Solinum and several volunteers of CartONG collaborated to map the services available in Bordeaux to precarious and/or isolated people so as to facilitate their access to the said information.

These maps, covering three distinct areas of Bordeaux (East Bordeaux, Lake Bordeaux and West Bordeaux) were developed by 4 CartONG4S volunteers using data collected by Solinum on the Soliguide platform. Updated three times, they were distributed by Action Contre la Faim and Restos du Cœur's teams during their outreach activities.

The WASH GIS portal (also called Borehole Database) was created in 2016 by our team. The WASH GIS portal centralizes information about boreholes data in refugee sites.

In 2020, CartONG's staff and volunteer teams conducted a wide range of data integration and collection tasks in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Here is a quick summary of what was undertaken.
