Organized by CartONG every two years since 2008 in Chambéry, the GeOnG conferece gathers humanitarian actors and professionals specialized in information management, including geographic and cartographic information. It is dedicated to discussions, experience sharing and learning about innovative solutions.
GeOnG is the biggest independent forum on the topic in Europe (more than 144 participants from 70 organizations in 2014). It has gradually become a major event on issues related to mapping, mobile technology, information management and more generally on the uses of new technologies in the humanitarian and development sectors.
The 5th edition will take place between the 17th and the 19th of October at the Manège (Chambéry' convention center), for the first time over three days. The last two editions gave us the opportunity to make the event more professional (increase in the number of participants, sponsors and budget, international exposure). The fifth edition coinciding with the 10th anniversary of CartONG, the association is planning for an even bigger event, which will include festive moments.
After editions tackling the role of these tools in decision-making processes (2008), new data collection technologies (2010), cloud-computing-related challenges (2012), and operational data analysis (2014), CartONG has decided to focus this fifth one on the theme "Impact of humanitarian IM: Lessons from the past, shaping the future".
