The funds received by TIDES to continue the REDD project are being utilised to produce free E-Learning Training Modules for NGOs and Grassroot organisations that are interested in conducting the REDD process in a participatory fashion.
Following on from the REDD+ Google project of publication and mapping of deforestation and forest degradation, CartONG worked more specifically on the improvement of the carbon projection model used in Vietnam so that it can be published in Open Source. It enables the development of consistent and standardize approaches to manage stocks and carbon movements as well as alternative solutions for ground occupation. Carbon budget and Projection Model show us gains and loss in different forest carbon reservoir.
CartONg has set up an E-Learning module concerning these issues in order to make easier potential actors’ training on similar project all around the world. It can also enable potential actors to plan and conduct a REDD+ project with local communities. This E-Learning platform must consist in four modules: Forest inventory, GIS (with QGIS), Remote sensing (GRASS) and Carbon Model. All of these modules are open-sources so that it can be easily deployable at basic community organisations. A survey has been made to determine users’ needs. All modules can now be tested
