Mobile Data Collection for Fairtrade New Zealand
About
Description
During different phases, CartONG supported FairTrade New Zealand (FTANZ) in their implementation and scale-up of Mobile Data Collection in their areas of intervention, ensuring technical assistance and training remotely. The support took different forms, from brainstorming discussions, to webinars, form coding, development of analysis tools and a map, and remote support for technical difficulties. This support allowed FTANZ to collect data, monitor and measure project progress, and report back to donors in an effective, accurate, and realistic way.
In the first phases, CartONG improved FTANZ’s database architecture, proposed technical solutions for digitized data collection, improved the encoding of the questionnaires, updated the guidelines relating to the operating procedures for the technologies concerned, and provided remote support in connection with the use of these technologies. Then CartONG also created a map that located all the producer organizations (POs) certified Fairtrade in the Pacific and identified a digital tool that would enable FTANZ to better assess how far the POs were compliant with the FT standards, ordered by topics (production, labour conditions, environment, etc.) and per year of certification. The tool allows FT ANZ staff or the POs to conduct a self-assessment on the FT compliance per topic and also allows them to get a list of actions to carry out to be compliant with FT standards.
In addition, CartONG also provided an analysis of the existing MDC (Mobile Data Collection) tools and helped FTANZA identify the one that would meet most of their needs.
