Webmap to fight AIDS in Madagascar
About
Description
UNAIDS partnered with CartONG to create an interactive cartographic tool to display the interventions made by civil society in the fight against AIDS in Madagascar. This tool aimed to locate interventions throughout the country and to identify gaps to improve future AIDS response strategies to be implemented by the CNLS (National Committee for the Fight against AIDS).
After the first phase of the project, which was led by UN Volunteers, CartONG developed a web mapping application that articulated various open source solutions adapted to the needs of the CNLS. The first prototype was launched in June and the project demonstrated CartONG’s technical capacity to manage complex volunteer-led projects over the long term.
After this first phase, two of the volunteers most involved in the development of the tool had the opportunity to travel to Madagascar in April 2017 to train CNLS staff on how to use the platform and update the data, to be able to maintain it in the future. The mission was funded by CartONG’s internal “Call for Ideas”; a mechanism to reinvest part of the surplus in volunteer projects and ideas.
