CartONG has been a partner of the Global Healthsites mapping project (Healthsites.io) since 2017, to help create an open data commons of health facility data with OpenStreetMap.
In 2019, we had our first opportunity to actively support the project in the field as the project was actually recognized in 2018 as "global good" by the Digital Square program of the leading health organization PATH. Alongside this recognition came funding to both push a new version of the Healthsites.io platform (which aims at sharing open data on heath facilities via OpenStreetMap), and pilot the new technology in Senegal.
In July 2019, CartONG thus organized a 2-week mission in Senegal with the company Geomatica and the local OpenStreetMap community to survey exhaustively all the facilities in the Saint-Louis department. The second week of the field mission was dedicated to presenting and promoting the "data collaborative" approach to local stakeholders and to encourage the sharing of health data between these stakeholders (UN agencies, NGOs and government).
