Stephanie D. Perham, former CartONG staff, was awarded the Governor General's Gold Medal in her native Canada for her outstanding research on GIS Mapping and Data-Management as an Information-Sharing Model to promote the Coordination of Humanitarian Programmes. She just completed her Master's degree in Human Security and Peacebuilding.
Steph started out with CartONG in 2008 as a volunteer in the Uganda IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) project in the UNHCR Gulu office, where CartONG was based between January 2007 and July 2008. Her dedicated work and her interest in GIS soon convinced CartONG to give her a contract and make use of her excellent writing skills in another project in 2009. Steph continued to assist with translating from French to English on a volunteer basis. She is still based in Gulu, Uganda, where she has accepted a United Nations Volunteer contract, working as a program assistant for UNHCR.
Needless to say, CartONG is very proud of her achievements, especially as her research was so closely linked to the CartONG project work in Uganda.
