CartONG : 10 years already !
During the GeOnG 2016 conference held in Chambery from 17 to 19 October, the CartONG association celebrated its 10th anniversary as it should be during the ceremony organized on Tuesday evening, with employees, volunteers, partner organizations and institutions.
Created in 2006, CartONG hired now 14 employees and has more than 60 active volunteers. To reach this end, Yann Rebois, the founder of CartONG, and Sandra Sudhoff, technical director of the association, came back to the genesis of this adventure through their experiences and the many challenges they had to meet in order for the young Association becomes a perennial and unavoidable structure on humanitarian mapping issues.
Humanitarian cartography is the heart of CartONG's activity. These 10 years of expertise on the subject made it possible to produce an animated film: "What is humanitarian cartography? "which was shown for the first time at this anniversary party.
This 10-year ceremony enabled the partners of the first hour to testify of their commitment and the commitment of CartONG to their institutions to bring knowledge, skills and expertise in the field of geographic information management and Humanitarian mapping. Mathieu Souppart (MSF), Lisa Daoud (Solidarités International), and Alexandre Jaillon (IPIS) told some memories of collaborations that have built the history of CartONG. Their support and their expectations have reminded us of the indispensable role that CartONG must play in order to face technical and technological challenges, which are all responses to current crisis situations. Mrs Colin-Cocchi, deputy mayor of Chambéry, also wished to congratulate the association, and called for future collaborations, in particular within the framework of the decentralized cooperation projects of the city with Burkina Faso.
.
Before going to the festivities (and the tasting of the giant cupcake globe!), Charlotte Pierrat, president of CartONG concluded this ceremony by thanking all the actors who took part in this adventure: employees, partners, volunteers, the board of the association, and all the institutions that have allowed the development of CartONG.
These ten years of human adventure and humanitarian action have been traced in the film "CartONG - 10 years of humanitarian cartography", projected on the evening of the ceremony.
After this beautiful evening that has turned the page of the first 10 years, CartonG is more than ever determined to evolve its skills both in the support of its partners and in the training of its teams to stay at the forefront of innovation. At the same time, CartONG aims to work with other actors structuring the sector of technical NGOs which intervene in support of humanitarian organizations and wishes to develop its expertise also in the service of development projects.
