An information management strategy allows you to define standard procedures that optimize workflow and ensure that the right information reaches the right people. Efficient information management is necessary for all sectors, be it WASH, education or CCCM, since you will conduct needs assessments, track distributions, carry out household surveys and generally monitor and evaluate your implementation for all programme activities. Information management involves collecting reliable and timely information, coordinating, planning and implementing assessments, analysing and storing information, as well as disseminating and presenting information in a format that is easy to understand and use, such as maps or graphs. Ultimately, these information products will inform planning and decision-making. CartONG assists humanitarian organizations in their IM work with any or all of these steps.

These one day seminars organised twice a year correspond to a community of practises composed of medium-sized NGOs that meet to exchange on information management practises, tools and methodologies. 13 NGOs are part of this community at this date.
CartONG has been helping Terre des hommes with their Information Management and data collection strategy since 2014, by evaluating tools, compiling studies and benchmarkings (some of which have been released on the CartoBlog), counseling them on how to help the organisation augment its skills and developing training kits and communication documents for its staff, as well as helping with the technical recruitment of IM/MDC staff.
Beyond this, a HQ hotline is available and two 2-day awareness raising sessions were organised in December 2016 and January 2017 to train Terre des hommes HQ Desks and Thematic specialists on what MDC could bring to their operations and also on knowing how to adapt a standard organisation form from one context to another (through XLS forms).
A Lessons Learned paper building on 5 years of MDC implementation at Terre des hommes is expected to be released in 2019.
La République Centrafricaine connait depuis 2012 une deuxième guerre civile. Le 24 mars 2013 Bangui est prise par la Séléka, il y a alors un regain de tension dans tout le pays. C’est suite à ces évènements qu’a été mis en place en République Centrafricaine le Mécanisme de Réponse Rapide (RRM). Fonctionnant avec des échéances de 6 mois, le 2éme RRM a débuté en avril 2014.
L’objectif initial du RRM est de conduire des enquêtes multisectorielles (MSA) rapides, puis de mettre en place la réponse rapide à travers ses partenaires. Les activités du RRM se divisent en 3 temps : Alertes – MSA – Activités. Les premières méthodologies de collecte de données et de partage de l’information mises en place pour les MSA n’étaient ni standardisées ni organisées par manque de temps. Le RRM se restructure depuis mai 2014 avec une nouvelle équipe de coordination qui promeut et met en place des outils standardisés pour ses partenaires.
Le RRM CAR en date de la mission est composé de la cellule de coordination UNICEF ainsi que de 5 partenaires opérationnels : Action Contre la Faim, ACTED, International Rescue Comitte, Première Urgence et Solidarité Internationale.
C’est dans ce contexte que CartONG s'est déployé a Bangui, en partenariat avec le bureau régional de l’UNICEF de Dakar, a apporté un support technique en termes d’évaluation et d’amélioration des outils d’analyse de données ainsi que sur la compilation des informations récoltées depuis le début de la crise.
