The roundtables are a perfect opportunity to discuss current or future stakes in the sector. The focus is on cross-cutting issues related to new technologies that impact the humanitarian and development fields, allowing interactions both between panel members and with the public during Q&A. The 9 roundtables of this year's edition will be held on Monday 29/10 and Tuesday 30/10. Focus on 3 of them in this newsletter:
- Beneficiary data: the forgotten component of the GDPR implementation?
What in-depth changes on responsible data practices linked to the GDPR introduction in May 2018 have humanitarian organisations undertaken or are currently trying to undertake? We will delve into more precisely what they have done on the beneficiary data side which in many organisations has been seen as less of a priority than Human Resources or individual donor data.
with Oxfam UK, Terre des hommes & MSF US
- Machine Learning & AI on satellite imagery for mapping
Artificial Intelligence and machine learning are progressing extremely fast in recognizing automatically elements from satellite imagery. However, how ready are these solutions to fullfill operational requirements?
with ICRC, Magellium & HOT
- Information Management strategies in consortiums: pitfalls & successes
The implementation of projects via consortiums of partners/operators is increasingly common in the humanitarian and development aid sector. This method of implementation raises very important issues in terms of data management, which are often eluded when consortiums are established.
with CAMEALEON (Lebanon), Cellule Inter-Consortia Fond fiduciaire Urgence - Résilience (Burkina-Faso) & Solidarités International representing LEARN (Syria), and the facilitation of Groupe URD
The full list of roundtables is available on our website on the Agenda page.

~ Fail Fest - Monday 29/10 ~
|
|
We are organizing for the first time a fail fest during the GeOnG. While not all failures are good to share, we believe at CartONG that some should be highlighted and discussed so that humanitarian and development actors can benefit from such constructive feedback. The notion of failure must be destigmatized in order to promote the spontaneous exchange of lessons learned within the sector. During, the fail fest, CartONG, ACAPS, Groupe URD & Oxfam UK will take turns speaking under the leadership of Laura Walker McDonald, GAHI's Director of Innovation, who will facilitate the session.

DEAR VOLUNTEERS, WE'RE COUNTING ON YOU!
|
|
GeOnG 2018 would not exist without the investment and support of CartONG volunteers and supporters! At the beginning of September, we launched a call for several volunteering missions in relation with the GeOnG. For more details, please contact Charlotte. We are still looking for an amateur photographer to help us cover the event with the support of the CartONG communication team!
In order to prepare serenely for the conference, we invite you to join us for a Get-Together on October 26th & 27th - right before the conference.
If you’ve already made up your mind and would like to volunteer, please fill out this form to register to the Get-Together, and this one to get your free-of-charge ticket to the GeOnG. As a reminder, all volunteers to the GeOnG need to also be members of CartONG.
