"After this training, I can now better understand the needs of GIS teams. I'm better equipped to act as a GIS ambassador for my mission. With what I've learned on the technical and operational fronts, I have better strategies for providing well-adapted support to the various teams that provide care to our beneficiaries. On Friday, April 14th, CartONG celebrated the GeoNight for the 5th consecutive year, through several collaborative mapping workshops - also called mapathons - which took place simultaneously in France, in French-speaking Africa and online! During one night, experienced cartographers and amateurs came together to map areas that do not appear on maps. This data will facilitate the activities of various actors working in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Togo, Benin and Madagascar.

~ CartONG continues to expand its pro bono support ! ~
CartONG is stepping up its pro bono support for small and medium-sized NGOs, through Fonjep "Volontariat d'Échanges et de Compétences" funding, mandated by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. Thanks to a community of qualified and motivated volunteers we provide pro bono (i.e. free) support to local and international NGOs on small-scale, ad hoc projects. Support can include the production of static or interactive maps, data mining and database development, set-up of data collection and management tools, among others. If you have a mapping and/or data management need, contact Clara Castoldi to learn more about the possible support we can offer.

~ Custom participatory mapping methodology for Médecins du Monde in Mayotte ~
A year ago, CartONG carried out a participatory mapping project with Médecins du Monde France (MdM) in informal settlements in Mayotte. During a 2-week mission in the field, CartONG helped MdM design and implement a tailored participatory methodology, based on simple mapping tools that enable residents to actively contribute to the production of geographic information, while creating a framework for expression, exchange and listening between residents and the NGO. Having been involved for several years with NGOs fighting against inadequate housing, we wanted to revisit this project in the context of increasingly violent political evictions and the destruction of camps and shantytowns.

EVENT ATTENDED - We were in Marseille this year at the State of the Map France, an event dedicated to OpenStreetMap users and contributors, to present the MapInclusive Erasmus+ project as well as the CartODD Mindchangers project. The sessions represented an opportunity to exchange with participants on what mapping, and digital mapping in particular, can bring to digital inclusion and awareness-rasing on SDGs projects.
TRAINING - Within the framework of the project financed by Expertise France, in partnership with Groupe URD, CartONG carried out two training sessions for Expertise France staff. The trainings held in May and June, for both a French-speaking and an English-speaking audience, delved into the program data management cycle and the tools that can be used in the project management and monitoring and evaluation processes. A total of 23 participants joined the in-person and remote training sessions.

EVENT ATTENDED - CartONG participated in the last edition of the Printemps des cartes - festival of citizen cartography in Montmorillon, France. It was also an opportunity for CartONG to present its work on the use of remote sensing for climate change analysis in a project for Action Against Hunger (ACF), and to take part in a round-table discussion on experiences of geographical representations from a gender perspective.

EVENT ATTENDED - We were at the Digital Transformation Forum in Latin America and the Caribbean organized by the German technical cooperation (GIZ) in Mexico. We facilitated 2 participatory workshops, questioning the impact of digital on climate changes but also presenting how OSM and geospatial data can have a social impact.
EVENT ORGANIZED - The 7th exchange day on program data management took place on 8th June. It was an excellent opportunity for 11 international solidarity organizations to discuss and exchange on their practices in responsible data management: how to navigate between legal and ethical obligations on the one hand, and what is possible to put into practice in the field on the other.
