CartONG is participating in the "ACTIV ECSI" project, which aims to strengthen the commitment of the Savoie department's inhabitants for a more united and sustainable world by developing innovative ECSI (Education for Citizenship and International Solidarity) actions and tools and new partnerships. The project is jointly carried out by the collective "La Fabrique du vivre ensemble" (of which CartONG is a member) and the FOL Savoie.

Co-financed by AFD for 3 years (early 2020 - late 2022) and implemented with the support of 10 partners, this project will make it possible for CartONG to continue its work in support of the sector by promoting the pooling and dissemination of new resources, both practical (tools, tutorials, training modules, etc.) and strategic (studies, etc.) to all humanitarian and development actors.

In 2021, CartONG's support was mainly concentrated on the creation of AFD’s activities databases per country. In addition to this, different GIS resources and mapping training were provided to the GIS referents of each agency in order to make them autonomous in map production. To know more about this support, please read our 2020 Annual Report.
In 2022, support will probably continue to accompany the referents in their usage of databases and mapping.
In 2020, CartONG started to support the AFD Africa Department to strengthen their bottom-up accountability systems. Indeed, AFD is looking to consolidate indicators using data reported directly by their partners in the field. On this project, CartONG is working jointly with Groupe URD to propose a series of indicators as well as a scenario for their Information Management system to ensure the reporting of the said indicators.
In 2021, building on the assessment phase which occurred in 2020, CartONG proposed a set of 6 scenarios based on AFD's technological environment (which includes a database developed in the Sahel Region) and the available human and financial resources. The Africa Department was able to evaluate and choose the scenario that best suited its needs. The implementation of the chosen system is now the responsibility of AFD.
This project consisted in the production of 5 maps to report on AFD's support in Tunisia between 2011 and 2020. In addition to the exported maps, the goal was to provide QGIS projects to the team so that they can easily update the maps themselves.

Following the success of the data collaborative project in the Democratic Republic of Congo organized in 2017-18 by CartONG and OpenStreetMap-DRC on health-related data, a similar initiative is being launched in 2019 on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) data.
This project is being launched with the support of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), following the PILAEP 2 project (Promotion of Innovative Modalities for Access to Drinking Water), which aims to set up sustainable drinking water supply systems for populations in the suburban districts of Kinshasa and Bas Congo not served by the national water supply authority.

As part of this initiative, CartONG provided direct support to NGOs - hotline or coaching - addressing specific data-related requests at headquarters or in the field, as well as a more global support to the sector through the release of technical and methodological guidance (technical briefs, tutorials and tech watch findings) and feedback resources (case studies and lessons learned).

It includes reworking their data model and process for capturing information on the activities that they finance, as well as the production of maps; support on the data collection tools, and training of AFD teams on the templates produced.

In 2018, a one-day awareness raising session was organized for AFD's Evaluation and Capitalisation division and Crisis and Conflict division on Mobile Data Collection. The session covered both an overview of the tools available and examples of the different types of use cases, but also a presentation of all the stakes that mobile data collection can represent in the development sector.
